Foundations of Mechanical Ventilation
Interested in a concise, didactic, open-access, engaging review of mechanical ventilation prior to your ICU rotation? Designed for residents and medical students to review prior to their ICU rotation, this course is divided in 9 videos with a total length of 1 hour. The videos contain ventilator screenshots from real patients, giving it a bedside feel. Topics discussed can be found below the sample video below:

Topics covered in the course:
• Modes – general explanations and guidance on how to choose between and use common modes
• Systematic assessment of the ventilated patient – gives a framework for learners to confidently present on rounds
• Basic mechanics – we will clearly explain key concepts such as plateau pressure and auto-PEEP
• Foundations of ventilating patients with ARDS, as well as with asthma/COPD
• The decompensating mechanically ventilated patient – a quick overview of possible causes of decompensation
• Extubation – discussion of timin and what to consider when deciding on extubation
